My family owns a Story and Clark upright pump organ built in the late 18 hundreds. It's been in my family basically forever. It's a stunning instrument. However, it REALLY needs tuned. Once you get below middle C, the notes are so out of key...How do

Church organ won musician over
Now there's nothing the organ can't do, Himmelman said this week.
The marvelous instrument is a large part of why the Nova Scotian accepted his position as organist and music director at St. George's, despite its essentially full-time hours for a modest, part-time fee. He's been at the job since October, has no regrets, loves Owen Sound and can't get over the welcome from the people of St. George's.
"I absolutely love it here. I love coming to work," Himmelman said. "I can say I'm probably the happiest -- the poorest and the happiest -- musician in Grey- Bruce counties."
Himmelman is offering Friday lunchtime organ concerts at St. George's at 12:15 p.m. throughout July and August. He said it's important to share the instrument and the concerts are an opportunity to reach beyond church music repertoire to show an Owen Sound audience what the Casavant-Phoenix can do.
"You can do literally all of the organ repertoire on this and do it effectively," Himmelman said, as he sat at the console and demonstrated some of the sounds it will make.
