I did the same reaction. I went to a carpet store and found a sample that had the pattern and colors that I wanted. I bought the sample and made them. They have lasted well ( 2 years now)

If you already can dally with a keyboard instrument you should not have any trouble playing a reed organ, harmonium or american organ - call it what you will.

The main difference is that you have to pedal with your feet to swell air...
