Hello,
Steinway is very very expensive, way more expensive than Yamaha and Kawai.

Yamaha and Kawai cost at least US$13000 - $40000 in my country. I always prefer a Kawai to a Yamaha. How about Shigeru Kawai? That may be more...

Have you priced the pianos yet? If not you may find that they are very expensive.

For the home I would not want a piano smaller than 5'-7" and 6' plus would be more desirable. Baby grands are just too small to sound great...

When Leominster shops supplied The Ivories

Where Granite Street forms its first bend and crosses the Monoosnock Brook stands a reminder of Leominster’s early industrial past. By the last decade of the 19th century, the F.G. Smith Piano case works was one of six Leominster factories that manufactured either piano cases or the complete instrument. The production of pianos was a staple of Leominster’s industry from 1845, when J.C. Lane opened his shop on the Mill Pond, until the Great Depression of the 1930’s. The sale of pianos plummeted as a result of the economic crisis brought on by the Depression and the advent of the radio, which replaced the piano as the centerpiece of parlor entertainment.

The first factory at the Granite Street site stood on the north side of the Monoosnock Brook. The plot was used for industry as early as 1763 when Mark Lincoln established a woolen fulling mill there. The fulling mill (a process of cleansing and thickening woven wool cloth) was replaced by a building constructed for the manufacture of hay racks in 1857. The new factory was accompanied by an improved dam (recently breached for public safety concerns) and a new water wheel. Just four years later, that building was con- verted to produce piano cases. The well known Steinway and Sons of New York purchased the factory in 1880 and commenced the construction of a second building to be used as a finishing shop for the cases on the south side of the brook. The original building was destroyed by fire on September 2, 1880, just as the new structure was nearing completion. Steinway sold the buildings to F.G. Smith shortly after the fire and that company manufactured piano cases on Granite Street for more than three decades. Years later, and after the manufacture of piano cases ceased, the original building was razed and what remains today is the building Steinway & Sons constructed for their final manufacturing phase
