Piano donated to cancer center

The halls of the Charles E. and Pauline Lewis Hayworth Cancer Center at High Point Regional Health System will fill with music thanks to a local man’s piano donation.

Michael Williford, 22, of High Point was looking for a way to make a lasting contribution for cancer patients and help his brother’s volunteer efforts.

Williford’s 15-year-old brother, Patrick, just began volunteering at the cancer center in what the family calls his “life of service.” Michael Williford volunteered at the center, where his mom is an onocologist, as a Westchester Country Day high schooler for 1 1/2 years.

“Patrick is very musically talented, which is surprising because none of us play an instrument,” Michael said. There was no form of music at the cancer center, and after learning that studies show that music improves the efficiency of cancer treatment, the Willifords started playing instruments and singing at the center. The brothers, and sometimes friends, perform at the center three days a week.
