Music in the Vineyards celebrates with a 'Sweet 16' season
Two weeks from Wednesday, 35 classically trained musicians from around the world will travel to the Napa Valley to perform in Music in the Vineyards’ 16th annual chamber music festival.Â
The three-week festival, held on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings throughout August, showcases award-winning artists performing in winery settings up and down the valley.Â
To maximize on acoustics, concerts are held in barrel rooms and wine caves where concertgoers can see the sweat on the artists’ brows and their intense facial expressions during crescendos.Â
The host venues also serve complimentary wine during intermission.
The festival kicks off on Aug. 4 in the Hudson House of Beringer Vineyards when the Enso String Quartet, nominees for the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance, perform works by Ginastera, Haydn and Sibelius.Â
Trio Cavatina, winner of the coveted Naumberg Chamber Music Award, performs Aug. 11 at the Hess Collection, where a spectacular art gallery and crystal-clear acoustics combine to create a magical setting. Individual award winners making their MITV debut this season include violinist Nikki Chooi, winner of the 2009 Irving M.
