* the natural minor has a flat 3, 6, and 7 both ways.
* the melodic minor has a flat 3 going up but a flat 7,6, and 3 going down
* the harmonic minor has a flat 3 and...

The fingerings for clarinet and bass clarinet are the same, so don't worry about that. On bass clarinet though you get the low Eb key (which is just so much fun to play lol). The keys are more spread out yes, but unlike with clarinet, you don't...

are there bass clarinets in middle school band?
There should be in any decent band! Apart from being a very important bass colour, it can have a stabilising effect on the bass pitch as the brass can sometimes be a bit wobbly.

I'm a bassoonist, but also play the bass clarinet. I haven't played my bass in an orchestra, or any group for that matter in a very long tinlme. Now when the oboe gives an A to tune the bassoon would also play an A. But doesn't the bass clarinet/...
The bass clarinet (and trumpet, tenor sax, baritone horn) is in Bb. Oboe, bassoon, flute, viols, etc are in Concert Pitch or "C".
If the conductor wants a Concert C then you play a D (2 half steps up) If the oboe (or...
I have played bass clarinet for four years now, so I am not new to it. But as there are only 3-4 (including concert, marching, and pep band) bass clarinet players in our band (and I'm the only "full time" bass clarinet player, as I like to
I have never played bass clarinet, however as a musician, I can say that you should listen to other people's works, and play it by ear. That way you'll learn what they are doing, and can figure out a style of your own that way.

Jazz breaking news: Courtney Pine Completes Soho Jazz Club Run
And spending most of the set on bass clarinet, also playing soprano saxophone, and flute, increasingly as the set progressed, Pine was joined by the Joanne Brackeen-influenced Rahman, stalwart guitarist Cameron Pierre , violin star Omar Puente , a highly rhythmic Darren Taylor on bass, and Courtney Pine Band mainstay Robert Fordjour on drums.
One feature of the evening was a joyous tribute to Sir John Dankworth, beginning with a reclaimed death march variant and then free wheeling to almost warp speed. Another highlight was āThe Tale of Joe Harriottā a tender narrative with nuanced sections, carefully arranged.
A masterclass in blowing and communication (with great bass clarinet tone and control, and musical personality throughout), the band at times had no alternative but to just watch Courtney soar, as he approached lift-off a few times, when the above- register harmonics and backing piano and guitar vamps combined to form a kind of organic loop. Itās as if he wants to break through the barrier to create a new music with almost every solo. Ostensibly a tribute to Sidney Bechet, the evening had much to offer and was at its most meditative when there was an acoustic flute-led āfolk massā feel.
