I want to start making my own Reeds, as $15.00 every 3 weeks is getting a bit expensive, how much will I spend in total, and what are the items I will need to do so?

i know its okay to do that with clarinet reeds which is what i used to do, but to get all the gunk out of it, can i soak it in peroxide?

I'm in the 8th grade, and in almost the 9th, and have been playing since the 6th grade.
I started making oboe reeds when I was in 7th grade. I went to band camp, and they had a reed making class. If you have a private music teacher they can help you with it. The sooner you learn to make them, the more money you can save.

ive liked bel canto and charles the best so far.
any suggestions?
Before I started making my own, I used Charles.
I've also tried Ann Hodge's and Justin Millers and never had any problems with them.

Do not, I repeat, do not use rico. They are not nearly as good of quality as Vandoren. I Vandoren's reeds are better. Use about a 3 if you can for optimal sound. Possibly a four, but that takes tremendous amounts of air. Oh, and try storing them in a

The Hartt School Announces 2010-2011 Instrumental Performance Season
The first concert of the 2010-2011 Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series is An Evening with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center on Thursday, October 14, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Spend an evening with the country's premier chamber music organization, known to millions from its many appearance on PBS. The Hartt concert roster of artists includes violinists Ani and Ida Kavafian, cellist Fred Sherry , violist Paul Neubauer, and clarinetist David Shifrin. Also performing as part of the Richard P. Garmany Series are the Bang on a Can All-Stars, The Brentano String Quartet, and the New York Woodwind Quintet. This Series has been made possible by a grant from the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. A special pre-concert dinner precedes each performance and begins at 6:00 PM in the University's 1877 Club, and a post concert reception to meet the artists follows each performance.
