I've been told this by several people that if you take your ligature and put it upside down on the clarinet than the tone in general will be lass sharp than if it was on right side up.

Hahaha- it's a bunch of malarchy.

I actually had never heard this one, so I dug out one of my old metal ligatures and tried it... it didn't change my pitch, but it sure as heck made my tone less than pretty!

Sounds manky - maybe some sort of mould?! Given that it's a silver plated ligature, it won't be rust (silver doesn't rust) but could also be some sort of corrosion. I'd try an ordinary silver polish on a soft cloth first up and see how that works.

If it fits than you definitely can, but if it sounds different or anything else you probably shouldn't do it. It might ruin the reed.
