I have a metal hoosier Clarinet serial number L7034. It plays great like a buffet r13 and the keys have lost most of its plating and it most of the pads are new.

Metal clarinets can sound surprisingly good but most aren't worth investing a great deal of money in. Replating the keys would involve taking apart the entire clarinet and would cost more than buying another- I'd think you could buy and repad several

Here is my 1927 Pan American Metal Clarinet. Thought I'd demonstrate what one sounds like.

WHAT COULD I USE TO CLEAN,POLISH,SHINE THE METAL PARTS OF A CLARINET,KEYS,RODS ETC. THIS INSTRUMENT IS WOOD AND MADE BY BUFFET AND OLD.SO I DON'T WANT TO DAMAGE ANY PARTS.PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

No pastes and no liquids or you'll damage the pads and possibly the wood. Getting paste or liquid in those rods will gum it up pretty badly. An old Buffet wooden model probably has either solid silver or silver plated keys and rings.

That is a tough question and you might have to do some searching to find one, but it is possible. Unlike the wooden clarinets produced today, the dimensions of the barrels of old metal clarinets varied greatly from one manufacturer to another. Some

My clarinet is really old, it plays great, but I wan't the metal too look shiny for the concert. What can I do to make it shine without damaging the pads?

Ask your tech to buff the keys next time you have it serviced. Nothing shines your keys like a good buffing with jeweler's compound but it's not something you really want to try yourself on your good instrument unless you're mechanically...

I'm talking the cheapest way to get it working without any air leaks. Everything else on it is in good condition.

It's the same amount of work and parts for a plastic or a wooden. The keys have to come off to do it.

You may find a shop in a small town that does "playing condition" for about $70 but a full repad will run $100-$150...
