I have to admit I was concerned when I started reading the Sunday Journal story about Steve Kass, the former talk-radio host who made a career out of railing against wasteful government spending and has now found a second career as a $75,000-a-year “administrative manager” for the state Emergency Management Agency.
I began to suspect he’d become the very kind of thing he used to rage about: a state worker with longevity pay, a powerful political patron and a job with a questionable rationale. I started to think it was the height of hypocrisy for Governor Carcieri , the budget-cutting former CEO, to keep Kass on the public payroll and for Kass, the former firebrand, to cling to state employment.
